Innovation of Pump as Turbine According to Calculation Model for Francis Turbine Design

The effective utilization of micro hydropower sources is often realized through the use pumps as turbines (PAT). efficiency PAT about same that original pump. A further increase in and power output can be achieved by modifying parts interacting with flow, especially impeller adjacent volute casing draft tube. This paper presents a user-friendly calculation model Francis turbine design its application for geometry modification. Two different modifications single-stage radial centrifugal pump were designed according to this model. first modification (Turbine) consisted complete revision geometry, tube, which corresponded conventional turbine. second (Hybrid) was based on altered only impeller, used casing. Both tested hydraulic test circuit at heads. comparison results Hybrid Turbine unmodified machine (Original) proved an overall 10%. provided higher flow rate torque. resulted increase—an approximately 25% 40% due modifications, respectively.
